Who We Are
We are Ireland's first dedicated gambling addiction counselling service, providing nationwide coverage through Skype sessions and face-to-face treatment in Waterford.
The Gambling Clinic was established by addiction counsellor, Barry Grant, in early 2016. It was inspired by University College Dublin's 2015 report into gambling addiction in Ireland, 'Playing Social Roulette'.The report found that there are currently between 28,000 and 40,000 problem gamblers in Ireland. It also stated that only around 1% of those who need treatment receive it. We feel that this is largely due to the absence of a dedicated gambling addiction treatment service.
In July 2019, The Gambling Clinic became an initiative of Problem Gambling Ireland - a registered charity, also founded by Barry Grant - in partnership with another registered charity, Extern Ireland. For more information on the governance structure of Problem Gambling Ireland, you can click here.
Barry Grant holds a B.A. Degree in Counselling Skills & Addiction Studies. He is a fully-accredited member of the Association of Professional Counsellors & Psychotherapists in Ireland. He is also a SMART Recovery Facilitator. Barry is a regular contributor on national radio and print media, on gambling addiction in Ireland.
